MADE BY HAND

All furniture and wood carvings crafted at Burnside of Ballintomb’s, Clova workshop, are produced with the very minimum aid of modern machinery, where each joint is individually hand cut and fitted, and sanding, finishing and polishing, carried out entirely by hand.

Burnside of Ballintomb work with individually selected, solid native hardwoods, with aromatic cedar of Lebanon being used to form drawer bottoms and cabinet backs. Chests and blanket boxes are also lined with this rare and special wood.

Wood carvings produced by Julian Schmechel adorn homes throughout the world, and might range through game animals and wildlife, clan crests or coats of arms, to hand carvings of trophy fish. With a lifelong interest in field sports himself, Julian has recently completed a commission to carve in elm, the heaviest fly caught salmon ever landed in the U.K.. This leviathan weighed 61 lbs, and came from the River Deveron in 1924. Trophy shields are also carved at Burnside of Ballintomb, and in particular, one which is awarded every year, to the best working pointer bitch, at the world famous Crufts dog show!
